Battery Transport – Burning Man 2026

Battery Transport SALES ARE NOW CLOSED!

Sorry folks… There’s a limit to how many batteries we can safely transport, and we’re already pushing it.

You MUST have read the General Info page first.

Why the separate fee for batteries, you might ask? Simple: all batteries are a potential fire hazard. Yes, we know some battery chemistries are safer than others, and that it’s *probably going to be fine*. But probably isn’t good enough when it risks totally ruining the burn of hundreds of other people. There are strict restrictions on the transportation of batteries, especially any lithium based ones, for a reason.

Historically, the NYC Container has never accepted batteries. Back in the day when we all rode plain-old-skool bicycles this wasn’t a big issue, as few people were using anything bigger than alkaline D batteries for their air mattress inflators or megaphones. But nowadays so many of us have eBikes, a solar generator, or other items with a big lithium battery.

For a while everyone was on their own and expected to figure out their own battery transport. That can get expensive and complicated though, unless you knew someone who was driving out West to the Burn. As it happens, some of our container crew *are* driving out West every year, so we decided to offer this an option, so you can conveniently drop-off and re-collect your batteries with us at load-in, on playa, and at load-out.

As with all things Container: We Guarantee Nothing! And we are neither liable nor responsible for any lost or stolen items. You did read and sign our Waiver, didn’t you? We do our utmost best every year to get everyone’s stuff safely to the burn and back, and people trust the NYC Container (we think?) for a reason. At the end of the day though: we are all volunteers and the container operates at-cost, with none of us receiving any sort of remuneration. We’re your burner friends, taking your stuff to the burn for you. And you wouldn’t sue your friends, now would you? 🥺

If you prefer to arrange for your own battery transport, you are *more* than welcome to! Frankly, the amount of batteries we are dealing with is a hassle, and we are very much open to affordable ideas that could simplify this in the future. In the meantime: have you considered skipping the ebike and going old-skool pedal-style? 😁 And if you *must* bring your solar generator to the burn, have you looked into taking the battery out of it (if that’s an option)? It would save you money, and it saves us having to deal with your bulky item.

Battery Transport SALES ARE NOW CLOSED!
There’s a limit to how many batteries we can safely transport, and we’re already pushing it.

One (1) “eBike Battery Equivalent” (eBE) means a standard-ish size *bike* battery.

Larger batteries such as those found in “powerbanks”, “powerstations” or “solar generators” of any kind, or a onewheel, electric unicycle (Inmotion, etc) or similar are not standard. Contact us (info@nyccontainer.org) to see if we can take your item, and how many “battery equivalents” it may represent.

PSA: generally speaking, we compare the volume and weight of your item to that of a typical eBike battery. Note that if you can take the battery out of your item, PLEASE CONSIDER DOING SO! It will save you money, and it saves us having to deal with your bulky item.

Battery transport QR codes are the same as your regular container space QR codes, and you can use whichever PDF-with-QR you received from us (for this year’s burn) interchangeably.

Please provide your legal name, email address, cell phone, estimated arrival date in Black Rock City, and Camp name (n/a if not associated with a camp).

Your email address and cell phone info will never be shared outside of NYC Community Container. We only use your contact info to keep you up to date with important announcements regarding the container. Cell phone will only be used in emergencies.

Payment options (with fee): PayPal / Credit Card (via PayPal)

Payment options (no fee): Zelle/QuickPay or Check/Cash (last resort)

Zelle/QuickPay: Most US banks support Zelle transfers. If using Zelle, send your payment to info@nyccontainer.org ASAP so we can match it up with your space purchase. You can also use our Zelle tag NYCCONTAINER instead of our email address. Note that while your Zelle payment is instant we need to follow up on it manually, so you will initially receive a “space reservation” / payment reminder email. Once we have confirmed your payment, you will receive the regular confirmation email with a QR code.

Check/Cash: While we prefer that you make your payment either through PayPal or Zelle, we can accommodate Check or Cash payments if that is your only option. Please FIRST contact us at info@nyccontainer.org if you wish to pay this way, after which we can meet up at NYC Burning Man Happy Hour to collect your payment.

You will receive a confirmation email with a QR code from us to confirm your purchase of container space. Check your spam folder if you do not receive anything from us.
